TALENT SAFARI & 6-MINUTE: Empowering Children Together

We first came to know TALENT SAFARI through an inquiry about 6-Minute-Diaries. It was clear from our very first exchange: behind it is not just a psychological practice, but a very thought-out, strengths-oriented approach that combines child and adolescent psychology with a lot, a lot of heart.

This concept simply fits so well with the 6-Minuten-Verlag that TALENT SAFARI absolutely should be introduced in more detail here. An initial cooperation request turned into a special collaboration – and finally 500 6-Minute-Diaries with a little elephant.

Child psychology, adolescent psychology, promoting talents, discovering talents

What is TALENT SAFARI?

Behind it is a child and adolescent psychology practice based in Ladenburg in Baden-Württemberg. Under the guiding principle "Child psychologists with heart and mind" it was founded by psychologists Dr. Katharina Reschke and Dr. Tom Reschke. The central concern is to support families in discovering, developing, and specifically further developing the individual strengths and potentials of children and adolescents.

That is exactly where the name TALENT SAFARI comes from: discovering your own strengths and talents is often a little expedition. It takes curiosity, patience, and sometimes more time than is available for every child in everyday school life. The practice accompanies children, adolescents, and their families in taking a closer look: What is already inside a child, what comes easily, and what do they need when learning, emotions, or development are currently challenging?

TALENT SAFARI works on a scientifically sound and consistently strengths-oriented basis – with approaches from developmental psychology, educational psychology, and positive psychology.

An idea meets open ears

At the beginning of the cooperation was the question: How can children and families be strengthened not only during the joint appointments, but also in between in everyday life? TALENT SAFARI was looking for a tool that would accompany children in the long term and help them regularly focus their attention on their own strengths, successes, and beautiful experiences.

This is where the 6-Minuten-Verlag came into play. The Safari team already knew our diaries from their own experience and particularly liked the idea of creating a small but continuous routine in everyday life with just a few minutes of mindful reflection. This led to the request to jointly develop personalised diaries that not only fit in terms of content, but also incorporate their own world and design.

From initial ideas came colour concepts, from colour concepts concrete designs – and after several rounds of coordination, finally diaries that also visually reflect TALENT SAFARI.

Positive psychology as a common foundation

One of the reasons why the collaboration fit so well lies in the common content basis: positive psychology. While clinical psychology traditionally deals intensively with stress, symptoms, and their management, positive psychology additionally focuses on another question: What helps people to develop well and grow psychologically? Among other things, personal strengths, gratitude, optimism, self-efficacy, and resilience play a role.

TALENT SAFARI also doesn't work exclusively on a problem-oriented basis. Children should be able to overcome challenges – but at the same time also perceive what is already inside them, what skills they possess, and what they can be proud of.

The elephant on the 6-Minute-Diary

A particularly important part of the personalisation was the TALENT SAFARI logo. Because the elephant in it is much more than a recognition mark, it is a kind of mascot. It stands for strength, intelligence, composure, self-confidence, playfulness, and childlike curiosity – qualities that are intended to accompany children on their personal developmental path.

And in the logo is even a small detail that can easily be overlooked: The initials TS are hidden in it. The elephant forms the T for "Talent", its trunk the S for "Safari". All the more beautiful it was for the team to finally see their own elephant on the finished diaries. Since then, it no longer accompanies the children only in the practice, but also at home on their personal emotional and strengths safari.

Journaling for children: What a diary can achieve

Children often remember very precisely things that did not work. A mistake at school, an argument, or a difficult moment can stay in the head for a long time, while a small success on the same day is more likely to be forgotten.

Journaling can help to consciously shift this perspective. Just a few minutes of reflection can help children

  • perceive beautiful moments more consciously,
  • appreciate their own successes and progress,
  • practise gratitude,
  • better categorise emotions,
  • develop helpful thoughts, and
  • strengthen their own self-efficacy.

Especially in an increasingly digital world, this also creates something that is lost more and more frequently in everyday life: a quiet moment in which nothing blinks, vibrates, or demands attention. The 6-Minute-Diary for Kids combines this reflection with age-appropriate stories, exercises, and prompts. And if something is not working so well yet: skills are not fixed permanently, but can grow through learning, practice, and experience.

A little companion for joint developmental steps

Most children who go to TALENT SAFARI are between six and ten years old. So our 6-Minute-Diary for Kids fits perfectly. But children don't only learn from what adults explain to them. They learn above all from what is modelled for them.

When parents themselves regularly pause, record positive experiences, or reflect on gratitude, children experience this attitude directly. In psychology, this is referred to, among other things, as modelling. That is why TALENT SAFARI also decided on personalised classic 6-Minute-Diaries PURE for adolescents and adults.

In this way, journaling can not only accompany the individual child, but in the best case become a joint routine within the whole family.

Cooperation with heart

We are constantly creating special collaborations. TALENT SAFARI is probably the most beautiful example of what can happen when a product is not simply given a logo, but really becomes part of a larger concept.

Here, child psychology, positive psychology, individual design, and daily routines come together – with a common goal: to help children and families perceive their own strengths a little more consciously.

And that is exactly why we thought: This safari deserves a little detour on our blog. Anyone who wants to dive deeper can also find a detailed article on the website of TALENT SAFARI about the scientific background of journaling with the 6-Minute-Diary for Kids.
