Meaningful Gifts: 10 Ideas for Mindful Giving

The definition of the perfect gift naturally depends heavily on the recipient and the occasion. But there is one type of gift that is sure to delight almost everyone: meaningful gifts; gifts with added value. A deeper meaning and a little mindfulness can transform even the smallest present into something special. Are you looking for ideas for gifts that promote mindfulness? Then you’ve come to the right place!

What is a mindful gift?

What makes a gift “meaningful” in the first place? A meaningful added value can come from many things: simply taking the time, having a beautiful thought behind it, creativity, mindfulness, or a great deal of attention to detail. Above all, meaningful gifts are those that leave beautiful memories or simply suit the recipient perfectly.

From small tokens of appreciation to a mindful short break, you’ll find a selection here that meets some of these criteria and is sure to delight many. Whether for a birthday, as a Christmas gift, or just for no particular reason. Of course, you can also treat yourself if you need a little mindful break from everyday life. All the ideas are sustainable and there is something for every budget.

Idea 1: Forest bathing between the trees

Gift idea, forest bathing

Have you ever been in the forest with all your senses? Fully consciously? So-called “forest bathing” goes beyond simply going for a walk, because here you don’t want to get from A to B as quickly as possible, but rather experience nature as intensely as possible. But as a gift? ABSOLUTELY! Because it doesn’t always have to be an expensive wellness weekend to unwind properly and find inner peace.

Grab a loved one and spend a whole day together in the forest. The guide from Mindfulmind gives you great ideas for sharpening your senses: slow down amid the birdsong and the scent of pine. Build a meditation on a clearing. Have a picnic on a soft carpet of moss. Try out different mindful breathing exercises and take in the various scents of nature. You’ll see: afterwards, you’ll return to everyday life feeling deeply relaxed (with pine needles in your hair).

Idea 2: Swedish design you can make yourself

Gift idea, crochet cushion

Beautiful. And handmade. If you love Scandinavian minimalist design and don’t fancy mass-produced items from the blue-and-yellow home furnishings giant, take a look at the crochet kits from Hoooked. They contain everything you need to create a high-quality home accessory yourself. The cushion is not only a super meaningful gift, but also beginner-friendly. In addition, the crocheting itself is completely meditative. You can also choose whether to make it yourself and present the finished product or gift the mindful time itself: coming home stitch by stitch. And in the end, receiving a great, sustainable cushion made from recycled cotton.

Idea 3: Attend a creative workshop together

meaningful gift, workshop

You can be anything and do anything you want. Perhaps even at a creative workshop as early as next Saturday. Painting, pottery, jewellery making, upcycling clothes… You’ll be amazed at the wealth of workshops available. From getting a taste of ancient crafts to rug making in the shape of a mirror, there’s something for everyone. You just need one person you’d like to gift a fun day to – and you can both really let your creativity run wild. With an event feel. themakery.de is a great starting point for creative workshops in larger cities. You can find something in the countryside too – ask your local pottery or florist, for example, whether they offer workshops. Creative time with a unique keepsake: yeah!

Idea 7: Scented Retro UFO

Essential oil diffusers are no longer a secret tip – but that doesn’t make them any less cosy. You can fill the diffuser with your favourite scents in the form of essential oils (you can also mix them and create your own notes), which are then released in intervals as a gentle mist. Lavender, for example, has calming properties, while citrus scents provide freshness and concentration. There are countless providers and products, and therefore unfortunately a lot of plastic junk. And then there’s this one: The diffuser from the avocadostore is not only really cute and distinctive, but also sustainable and made from recycled materials.

Idea 8: Chocolates without the guilt

Chocolates… that aren’t suitable for eating? Well, thank goodness, that saves calories. The bath bombs from Satin Naturel are handmade from ingredients of the best organic quality. One gift box is enough for 14 full baths. The only downside: they look really delicious. If your mouth starts watering, you should probably just let the water flow into the bathtub.

Idea 9: DIY Upcycled Candles

You can never have enough candles. Making them yourself is a really nice DIY project and also a meaningful gift that you can easily make together with children. For this, you first gather up wax scraps you find around the house. Anything works: old tealights, candle stumps, Babybel wrappers…

If you don’t have enough scraps, you can add wax sheets from the craft store or affordable, pre-coloured candles. You’ll also need a candle wick. Then you can carefully melt the wax in a water bath. Tall, open tin cans that you can dispose of afterwards are well suited as containers. The can should be filled at least three-quarters full. Once the wax is liquid, the creative work begins.

Version 1: “Pulling” taper candles. For this, you cut off a little more than double the desired candle length (at most as long as the wax container). Fold the wick in the middle and place it over a wooden pencil at the fold. You can also place two or three wicks over the pencil – depending on how large your wax container is. Then you repeatedly dip the pencil construction into the wax, pull it out again, and wait a few seconds so that the wax layer can dry.

Once the candles are thick enough, let them harden completely in the air. You can certainly hang the pencil somewhere so that the candles can dangle down. Afterwards, separate the wick at the point where it lay over the pencil and cut off about half a centimeter from the bottom of the candles with a knife so that they fit into a holder.

Version 2: Pouring candles into mould. Silicone mould are best suited. Take a look around your kitchen; maybe you already have silicone muffin or ice cream mould. Otherwise, there are also special candle mould. Carefully pour the liquid wax into the mould, insert a suitable piece of wick, let the candle harden, carefully release it, and you’re done.

If you don’t have a suitable mould, you can also pour the wax into old, no longer needed glasses.

Tip 1: For creative overload, there are candle markers, with which you can paint or label the candles afterwards for even more individuality.

Tip 2: The Pelikan online colour mixer tool for children is a great option if you use many colourful wax scraps. Here you can mix colours and see the result directly. If there are too many colours, you should better sort the wax by colour in several containers or melt it in one after another. This prevents your candles from glowing brown on brown in the end.

Idea 10: Retreating Inward

Here comes the luxury gift in this series. How about a short break that is completely designed to bring the body and mind (back) into harmony? So-called “self-care retreats” give you and your loved ones the opportunity to press the inner reset button and completely switch off everyday stress for a few days.

There are yoga retreats on the beach, reflection days in Buddhist monasteries, Ayurveda treatments, and many more. But they all have one thing in common: rebalancing the inner imbalance. This is usually done through mindfulness exercises, meditation, wellness offerings, and healthy eating. Retreats are also great for meeting like-minded people and discovering new, positive perspectives on yourself and the world.

Gifts Can Be More Than the Brief Joy of Unwrapping

Meaningful, sustainable gifts show that you really put thought into it – regardless of whether the gift was expensive or cost nothing at all. Loving thoughts and positive intentions turn everything into something special. Perhaps there is something on this list for you too. And don’t forget that you can also treat yourself from time to time.

This post is by Elena Rieder. She once thought yoga was a bit silly. That was, right up until she tried it herself for the first time. Since then, mindfulness has been an important part of her life, which fortunately also fits perfectly with her work at the 6-Minuten-Verlag.
